Private mentoring sessions

Just as new parents find that they need a doula for the mentoring aspect, I find that doula’s need it as well.

One of the biggest things that was lacking for me when I did my training so many years ago, was that I had virtually no support for a very long time. Sure my friends would listen and other doulas talked to me now and again but I didn’t have someone to really process things with like my own anxiety over my meetings with clients, how a birth went, how I felt after I witnessed a doctor treat a woman so horrible it left me depressed for days. I wanted someone to explain to me what to do when I found out that my client was in an abusive relationship, or how to handle when a birth is traumatic. I wanted someone who could help me write my contract so I didnt miss anything, how to handle a client who didn't pay on time, what about bartering? What are other options if a labor stalls and I ran out of ideas, or if someone was high risk or was being forced into something they didn't want to do. What if I am not sure about when a client goes into labor if we should go to the hospital or call the doctor or midwife first?  What about how any of it effects ME emotionally? I thought after the first few years, that I could handle it all. I did ok on my own, then, I had a client lose her baby, and I realized that just as women should not be in this alone, we , as doulas should not be either. I was put in a precarious situation as I was told that I was not to talk to anyone about the infants death because of how news travels fast and medical establishments often like to blame someone for the loss so they don’t have to take it. I felt lost and alone and wished I knew someone I could trust to vent, cry and talk to  who would understand how deeply my connection to this birth was, how I was grieving for the loss for the mother. It took me quite by surprise that I was impacted far more than I thought I would be by not being able to hold the baby myself as I always love to connect with my new doula babies also.

So I chose to make this an option for doulas. I have been mentoring doulas for years who have come across my path . I want to make sure that all doulas who want to have that mentoring will have it available. So they are never caught off guard and they know they have a doula who is holding space for them in their world. This is the most rewarding work that I could ever imagine doing. It also is the hardest emotional work. As women and doula’s we are in constant motion trying to find our own balance with the women we serve.  After many years of helping women in this manor, I am honored to be able to offer you such mentoring, so that you can help build your own sense of balance , learn about yourself, and find your own magnificence through this work like I have.
